Headley Down Nature Reserve

How we are funded

When our charity was set up and registered as a Foundation Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2016, it was agreed that all trustees would be unpaid and would not benefit financially in any way from their position. We greatly appreciate all the support we receive from local residents who have made donations directly to the Trust, or in the collection box at the One Stop, and are very grateful to Headley Parish Council for covering our insurance costs each year so far.

Volunteers help the trustees with general maintenance work on the nature reserve whenever possible, but creating a nature reserve on a former landfill site requires considerable funding for access pathways, benches and information panels in addition to all the new planting that takes place. Our funding for these larger projects has come from a variety of sources over the years, as you will see from all the logos of our funders on the website. Amounts awarded vary, and some of the funders have given us grants on several occasions, the most frequent contributors being East Hants District Councillors Anthony Williams and Richard Millard. The National Lottery has responded well to our applications, providing substantial sums through their Heritage and Community Funds. All requests for funding require a great deal of form-filling and the submission of detailed plans. Once completed, the projects have to be evaluated and accounts submitted for monitoring.  

The trustees would like to take this opportunity to thank all the funders who have so generously supported our work. Feedback from those who use the nature reserve is tremendously positive and leave us in no doubt that this green and pleasant space is appreciated by people of all ages, as well as the local wildlife!
