Great Tit – answers
- Great tits have a black and white head and a black band that runs from their chin to their tail and they have a yellow chest. Did you know that the great tit is the largest of the tit family?
- In the wild, great tits will look for insects, spiders and worms, but they do love visiting garden bird tables where they will happily eat peanuts, suet, fruit and other tasty treats.
- Great tits get very aggressive towards other birds if they get too close to the food, they will open their beaks and spread their wings so scare off other birds. A real life Angry Bird.
- They will mainly build their nests using grasses, moss and wool, but have been known to use all sorts of stuff.
- After a diet of tasty caterpillars, the fledglings are ready to leave the nest around 3 weeks after hatching.
